One Firefighter Injured in Structure Fire in Central Lubbock
At approximately 8:00PM, Lubbock Fire Rescue received a 911 report of a possible residential structure fire near the 2200 Block of 18th Street. The caller reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the residence.
Engine 1, Truck 1, and Battalion 1 were the first units to arrive on scene and advised of heavy fire and smoke conditions coming from a small, single-story residential structure. Crews immediately made entry into the structure and began fire suppression operations. Approximately five minutes into the incident, fire conditions began to intensify rapidly, and smoke conditions worsened. Due to the changing conditions, the Incident Commander ordered all crews to evacuate the structure and transition to defensive operations. Crews remained outside the structure while continuing fire suppression efforts until conditions improved enough to safely resume interior operations.
Shortly after the evacuation, one firefighter was evaluated on scene for heat exhaustion and transported to UMC Hospital in stable condition.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office.
