City of Lubbock to Host Ceremonial Groundbreaking for Broadway Reconstruction Project

The City of Lubbock will host a ceremonial groundbreaking at 11 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, to kick-off the Broadway Reconstruction Project, part of the 2024 Street Bond.
“Broadway is the heart of downtown,” said Mayor Mark McBrayer. “The potential for what can happen on Broadway is endless. This is a major step in our efforts to revitalize downtown, and once we have a street that’s better for pedestrians, better for businesses and better for vehicles, we expect this to breathe new life into downtown.”
What: Ceremonial Groundbreaking for Broadway Reconstruction Project
Location: Broadway and Avenue M
When: Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11 a.m.
More information about the Broadway Reconstruction Project: Reconstruction of Broadway from Avenue Q to Avenue E includes a new 3-lane concrete road with street parking and bike lanes on both sides of the road. Engineered brick pavers with alternating colors will be placed at intersections and crosswalks. The project will include new sidewalks, benches, bike racks, and trees on both sides of Broadway. To ensure that this pavement is undisturbed for the near future, there will be upgrades to the water pipes, sewer system, drainage, illumination, and traffic signals on and around Broadway.
