Lubbock Animal Services (LAS) has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 12th annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption event for the 9th consecutive year. This year’s event is scheduled for August 22, 2026, at Lubbock Animal Services located at 3323 SE Loop 289.

As part of the nationwide initiative, NBC and Telemundo stations partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise funds that support animal welfare.

“This annual event is our biggest adoption event of the year, and we want to find homes for as many animals as possible. This is an opportunity to rally our community together and raise awareness about how amazing shelter animals as family pets can be, and to teach our residents how rewarding animal adoption is,” said Taylor Ruggles, Assistant Director of Animal Services at the City of Lubbock. “Buying dogs and cats from breeders isn’t the only way to find a beloved family pet. We hope that members of our community who are seeking to grow their families with a pet consider coming out to Lubbock Animal Services on August 22 to interact with the animals in our care, and hopefully adopt from the animal population we already have here in our community.”

Virtual pet adoptions will return for the eighth year in a row through WeRescue, which allows website and app users to browse adoptable pets in their area by breed, gender, size and other factors, submit applications, and ask questions directly to shelters. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a global leader in science-based pet nutrition, is returning as the campaign’s national sponsor for the ninth consecutive campaign.
