City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department Announces Summer Events


During June, July, and August, the City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department will host free community-wide events across the city that everyone is invited to.
- Yoga in the Plaza
Every Saturday in June at 10:00 a.m.
Buddy Holly Plaza (1824 Crickets Ave)
Led by instructors from around Lubbock, Yoga in the Plaza takes place every Saturday in June. - Lubbock Fit and Fun Festival
June 20 at 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Aztlan Park (1019 1st Pl)
With flag football challenges, an obstacle course, and the pop-up park, this event is a great opportunity for those looking for a day of fun or interested in practicing some flag football skills before the Parks and Recreation youth flag football league starts on August 5. - Movies in the Park
June 20, June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25, August 4 with pre-show activities beginning at 6:00 p.m.

One of the more popular summer event series, Movies in the Park, is expanding this year with movies in more parks for more ages. The movies on June 20, June 27, and August 4 are rated PG, while the movies on July 11, July 18, and July 25 are rated PG-13. Families should consider the ratings before deciding which series of this event to participate in. Wellpoint is the presenting sponsor for the entire Movies in the Park series with additional support provided by Rodeo Dental. - Fitness in the Park

Parks Around Lubbock
To continue encouraging people to include more physical wellness in their lives, Fitness in the Park highlights different parks and different types of fitness throughout July. - Adaptive Play Day
July 25 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Maxey Community Center (4020 30th St)
This day of inclusive play provides opportunities for people of all abilities to engage in sensory activities, try out a demonstration of a class, and enjoy inclusive recreation. - National Night Out
August 4 at 6:00 p.m.
Rodgers Park (3200 Amherst St)
During National Night Out, there will be a movie shown in the park, activities for kids, school supplies handed out, and a live musical performance. The entertainment group, Mariachi Azteca, and 250 backpacks with school supplies are provided through generous support from Wellpoint.
