Western Texas College Opportunity Center Offering School Bus Driver Training in June and Juky
The Western Texas College Opportunity Center in Snyder will offer School Bus Driver Training this summer to help address the ongoing need for qualified school bus drivers throughout the region.
The Western Texas College (WTC) Opportunity Center designed the training program to help people who already hold a Commercial Driver License (CDL) obtain the school bus endorsements needed to drive a school bus. The program prepares people using a combination of classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel experience.
School bus drivers play an important role in their communities by helping students travel safely to and from school each day. The profession offers an opportunity to serve local families while earning a dependable income.
“School bus drivers are often one of the first and last school employees students see each day,” said Mischa Norris, Director of Workforce and Development & Continuing Education at Western Texas College. “They play a critical role in student safety and success.
“This training provides an opportunity for people to enter a meaningful profession while helping school districts meet an important workforce need.”
The program also supports WTC’s mission of connecting workforce training with regional employment opportunities.
“At the Opportunity Center, we focus on training that leads directly to jobs and serves the needs of our communities,” said Shawn Fonville, Vice President for Career and Technical Education and Continuing Education. “School districts continue to need qualified drivers, and this program gives people the skills and hands-on experience needed to pursue those opportunities.”
People may choose from two training sessions scheduled for this summer: Session 1 runs from June 29 to July 15, 2026, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Session 2 runs from July 20 to August 4, 2026, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The ten-day course includes behind-the-wheel instruction.
Participants must complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) before the first day of class and obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) at least seven days prior to the start of training.
