One Firefighter Injured in Structure Fire in Central Lubbock

Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire near the 1700 Block of 18th Street after receiving a 911 call reporting smoke and flames coming from a residential structure.

First arriving units found a vacant two-story residential structure with a confirmed structure fire. Firefighters quickly initiated fire suppression & search operation and successfully extinguished the fire.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire originated on a mattress in the downstairs apartment and spread up an exterior wall into the doorway of the upstairs apartment.

During firefighting operations, one firefighter sustained a leg injury after stepping through a hole in the floor of the second-floor apartment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office.
