About Staff Sergeant Phillip Jason Greenberg, United States Air Force
Staff Sergeant Phillip Jason Greenberg enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2005, answering the call to serve his country with honor and dedication. He served for six years as a Vehicle Operations Journeyman, deploying multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Army units.
During his service, Phillip took part in high-risk convoy missions and supported provincial reconstruction teams that worked to build infrastructure such as roads, schools, and agricultural projects—efforts aimed at bringing stability and hope to local communities.
While deployed, Staff Sergeant Greenberg demonstrated extraordinary courage under fire, including an incident during his second combat tour when his unit came under heavy enemy attack near Baghdad while delivering supplies. His actions during combat earned him the Air Force Combat Action Medal, among other recognitions for his service and sacrifice.
His military honors include:
- Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters
- Air Force Achievement Medal
- Meritorious Unit Award
- Afghanistan Campaign Medal with service star
- Iraq Campaign Medal with service star
- Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Service Medal
- NATO Medal
These awards reflect his dedication, bravery, and commitment to his fellow service members and his country.
Staff Sergeant Greenberg sustained lasting injuries during his service, including severe ankle deterioration, spinal damage, and shoulder injuries. He also continues to live with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of his deployments. Despite these
challenges, he remains resilient and forward-looking as he builds a new chapter of life with his wife, Autum, in their new home
