“Unearth A Story” 2026 Summer Reading Program at Lubbock Public Library

Lubbock Public Library invites you to join us for our annual Summer Reading Program from June 1 -July 31. This year our theme is “Unearth A Story” and we will explore the world of dinosaurs, archaeology, and geology. We will have free activities for all ages, all summer long! Some of these exciting activities include petting zoos, gatherings at City of Lubbock Parks, hands-on archaeology activities, laser tag, musicians, magicians, animal shows, and many more special presenters!
Join us on Friday, May 29, at Patterson Branch Library for our Summer Reading Kick-Off Party from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Kids will stomp into stories through dino-themed activities, games, and books that spark curiosity and a love of reading.
In addition to all the incredible programs taking place this summer, there will also be a Reading Challenge, where you can win prizes just for reading. To participate in the reading challenge, visit lubbock.readsquared.com or download the READsquared App. A library card is not required to participate. Registration on
Citibus and the Lubbock Public Library are teaming up again to make your summer unforgettable! When you register for the Summer Reading Program, you’ll receive a special code for a FREE Citibus pass in the GoPass App—giving you complimentary rides to and from the library all summer long. Because every great adventure starts with a good book, let Citibus take you on a journey filled with stories, imagination, and discovery.
Our Summer Reading Program also aims to help prevent the “summer slide”, where students lose some of the crucial reading skills they’ve gained during the school year. We’ll keep kids engaged with reading and other school subjects with the return of Read, Lunch, & Learn at Patterson Branch Library all summer long. From June 2nd to July 22nd, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, children in grades K-8th will be able to enjoy a free lunch, participate in storytime/reading sessions, and have access to personalized tutoring! Patterson Branch Library is located at 1836 Parkway Drive. For more information about the Read, Lunch, & Learn program, call 806-767-3300.
