Red Raiders in the hunt after round one of regionals

The Red Raiders are one shot outside the top five — the cutoff to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals in Carlsbad, Calif. — entering Tuesday’s second round. No. 14 UCF currently holds fifth place at 3-over 287, while Ohio State and Northwestern share the team lead at 5-under 279.
Maja Ambroziak paced Texas Tech with a 2-under 69, tying for sixth individually in the 66-player field. The junior rebounded from a difficult finish at the Big 12 Championship to record her first under-par round since the
Huntington Bank Collegiate on April 6 and her fourth round shot in the 60s this season. Ambroziak sits three shots off co-leaders Ashley Yun of USC and Elise Lee of USC, who each opened with 5-under 66s.
Lauren Zaretsky also turned in a strong opening round, carding an even-par 71 to sit tied for 15th. Denisa Vodickova and Klara Hurtova are both tied for 33rd after rounds of 3-over 74, while Cameron Freund is tied for 57th at 7-over 78.
Texas Tech will resume play on Tuesday at 7 a.m. CT (8 a.m. local time in Michigan) with the second of three rounds at the regional. The final round is scheduled for Wednesday.
