Lubbock Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week and Economic Development Week
The National Travel and Tourism Week and Economic Development Week will be celebrated May 4–8, highlighting the vital role both industries play in strengthening communities across the nation and right here in Lubbock.
Recognized nationwide, this week underscores how travel and economic development work together to drive growth, support jobs, and enhance quality of life. From attracting new visitors to recruiting businesses and workforce talent, these industries collectively shape the long-term success of Lubbock.
In Lubbock, that impact is both measurable and meaningful. Each year, nearly seven million visitors travel to the Hub City, contributing to local businesses, supporting jobs, and generating critical tax revenue that benefits residents. Events and meetings alone generated approximately $73 million in economic impact in a recent year, demonstrating the strength of Lubbock’s visitor economy.
Through the efforts of Visit Lubbock, the city’s official convention and visitors’ bureau, now celebrating its 50th Anniversary, Lubbock has hosted thousands of events and welcomed millions of visitors, resulting in more than $297 million in direct economic impact over time. These efforts not only bring new dollars into the community but also elevate Lubbock’s profile as a destination for sports, meetings, and leisure travel.
At the same time, the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA) continues to focus on business recruitment, expansion, and workforce development, ensuring that Lubbock remains competitive and positioned for long-term growth. Tourism plays a key role in that strategy, helping attract new investment, supporting infrastructure, and creating opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
