Texas Tech wraps up weekend meets

The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up its meets across the country Saturday evening, highlighted by the women’s 4×400 team breaking a 21-year old record at the Tom Jones Memorial Invite.

Tom Jones

In the final event of the day, the Tech women broke the school record in the 4×400. The team of Vanessa Balde, Mekenze Kelley, Lovia Ewusi and Collinique Farrington combined for a time of 3:28.64, taking down the 2004 record of 3:29.49

Both the men’s and women’s 4×100 teams placed second overall. The men’s quartet of John Sherman, Jonathan Crawford, Josiyah Taylor and Kimarlie Stewart clocked in at 38.89. The women’s team of Alyssa Colbert, Olayinka Olajide, Anita Afrifa and Brianna Howard combined for a time of 42.92, a new SB and No. 4 all-time in Tech history.

Colbert ran a blistering time of 11.11 (1.7w) in the 100m as she placed eighth overall. The time goes down as No. 6 all-time for Tech.

Mt. SAC

Temitope Adeshina opened her outdoor season clearing 1.95m (6-4.75) for the win. It’s No. 3all-time for TT and going into the weekend, it’s the No. 1 mark in the NCAA. Tamiah Washington won the triple jump on her last attempt. Washington bounded 13.41m (44-0) (2.7w) to take home the title. On the men’s side, Jonathan Seremes made his outdoor debut placing third with a mark of 16.32m (53-6 ½) (1.5w).

In the high jump, BJ Jennings cleared a SB 2.20m (7-2 ½) for second place.

Joe Gillespie

Trey Wilson won the men’s shot put with a throw of 16.90m (55-5 ¼). The women’s shot put saw the Red Raiders go 1-2-3, led by Faith Mitchell with a toss of 16.35m (53-7 ¾). Amori Pierson in second threw 16.08m (52-9) as McKenzie Davis landed a mark of 14.22m (46-7 ¾) in third.

Notables

Fanny Arendt opened her season in the 800m (7^th) going 2:02.18, No. 2 all-time for Tech
Desean Boyce paced the men’s 400m crew finishing 9^th with a time of 45.52
True freshman Kyzer Dunbard placed 9^th in the 800m invite (1:46.75). Meanwhile, George Garcia, running the event for the first time, finished 16^th with a time of 1:48.67
The 1500m races cap off the Red Raiders weekend at the Bryan Clay. They are slated to start at 9 pm PT or 11 pm CT. Please stayed tuned to TexasTech.com for results.
