CASA Invites Community to Take Action During National Child Abuse Prevention Month
This April, CASA of the South Plains is calling on the community to take action during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and supporting children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Symbolized by the color blue and blue ribbons, the month serves as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in protecting children. Community members are encouraged to wear blue and display blue ribbons throughout April to show their support.
In the Lubbock region, the need for that support remains critical. Child abuse and neglect rates have exceeded the state average for more than a decade. In 2025, Lubbock County reported 8.6 victims per 1,000 children, compared to the state average of 6.56, with the broader region reaching 9.23 per 1,000. To bring awareness and provide meaningful ways to get involved, CASA is partnering with local businesses and hosting community events throughout the month.

About CASA of the South Plains
CASA of the South Plains inspires, educates, and empowers solution-minded community members who are committed to supporting the best interest of children in the foster care system. Volunteer advocates create connections and promote nurturing relationships for the child and family, encouraging hope and healing. Through court appointment and collaborative efforts, volunteer advocates share informed recommendations for the well-being of the child. CASA supports children in six counties in the South Plains: Cochran, Hale, Hockley, Lubbock, Terry, and Yoakum.
CASA’s Impact*
- 374 children received advocacy services from CASA of the South Plains in 2025.
- 222 CASA Volunteers donated a total of 5,832 hours in 2025, saving county taxpayers $320,760 in county paid attorneys’ fees.
- 120 youth in foster care found permanency with the help of their CASA Volunteer in 2025.
